It was not until late in the main event Friday at Mississippi Thunder Speedway, that the outcome came squarely into focus. Joe Chisholm, started eighth and ran multiple lines in working towards the front. Late in the race, he worked underneath Keith Foss and led the Hochatown Saloon Last Call to score the inaugural win in front of a packed house.
“We tried some stuff, hot laps, qualifying, heat race and it did not work,” said Chisholm in Victory lane. “We went right back to what we were doing good on last year. I gotta thank all my family and all my sponsors. I Iove this racetrack. Hats off to the crew.”
Foss, the 2022 track champion, fired from the pole and set a great pace for the majority of the event. He finished as the night's runner up. Jacob Blees, who was the Deatherage Opticians Fast qualifier, rolled from third and finished in the final podium position. Brandon Davis and A.J. Hoff filled the balance of the top five.
Several drivers made huge gains throughout the feature. It is not only a testament of their skill, but also track owner, Bob Timm dialing in a perfect surface for racing. Rodney Sanders got behind early and rolled from 21st. He knocked down 15 spots in the feature to run sixth.
Lucas Schott moved nine spots to eighth. Right behind Schott was Taton Hansen. He passed 11 cars. A little further back, Zach Brom also rolled up 11 positions. Right behind Brom, Alex Williamson passed nine cars as well.
Brandon Davis, Shaun Walski, Jacob Blees and Keith Foss were early heat race winners.
Saturday the Dairyland Showdown wraps up with a $3,000 to win show for the series. Gates open at 4:00 PM, with racing beginning at 7 PM. The World of Outlaws Late Models will be the headlining division, racing for a $30,000 payday.
If you can't make it to the track, DirtVision will have all of the action live.
